Navalny decided to run for President

The head of the Fund of struggle against corruption Alexei Navalny intends to run for President in 2018. This follows from the words of his lawyers, who applied to the Committee of Ministers of the European Union to exert pressure on the Russian authorities for a review of sentencing policy in the case of “Kirovles”, writes “Kommersant”.

Lawyers are reminded that without such pressure, the Supreme court may refuse to review the case of the Bulk, as it has been with the ECHR ruling on Khodorkovsky and Pichugin.

Lawyers believe that the only legitimate possibility for Bulk restore their rights (particularly the right to be elected) it is the decision of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.

“As an opposition leader, the applicant considers of paramount importance the possibility of participation in presidential elections in 2018 as a candidate,” the letter reads defenders in the Council of Europe.

Recall that for the case of “Kirovles” Navalny, which in 2013 suspended sentence of 5 years, can be elected President only in 2033: must first undergo a 5 year sentence followed by 5 years of disqualification, the decision which was also attended court and after 10 years, meted out by the law for persons who have committed serious crimes.

Currently, the ECtHR ruled that in the case of “Kirovles” Navalny and sentenced him Peter Ofitserova the state should pay 87 million euros, in addition, declared the decision adopted as a result of “the arbitrary interpretation of the criminal law” and “unreasonable”, although the political case and not considered.
