New Zealand has entrusted Russia the procedure for the selection of the Secretary General to the UN security Council

New Zealand has entrusted Russia the election procedure of the Secretary General during its presidency of the UN security Council. This was stated by the permanent representative of New Zealand to the UN Gerard van Bohemen.

It is noted that the representatives of New Zealand will preside over the September meetings of the UN security Council. “Our countries have made this choice to avoid any hint of conflict of interest, since we have a candidate,” said van Bohemen.

He noted that one of the contenders for the post of Secretary General is the former Prime Minister of New Zealand Helen Clark.
