Erdogan assured Poroshenko that “does not recognize the occupation of Crimea”


The website of the President of Ukraine reported about past telephone conversations between Poroshenko and Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

According to the report, the Ukrainian head of state expressed support to the President of Turkey and the Turkish government in the context of the military coup, which was carried out on the night of 16 July.

In response, Erdogan assured Poroshenko that Turkey’s position will not change on the issue of independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders. The Turkish President stressed that “the Turkish Republic does not recognize the occupation of Crimea” and will continue to support the Crimean Tatars.

The parties also discussed the deepening of partnership between States and the cooperation in the energy sector.
