The appointment by the Minister of education and science of Russia, Professor Olga Vasilyeva, which occurred after the sudden resignation of the former head of Department Dmitry Livanov, was a surprise to virtually all experts.
The decision, which President Vladimir Putin has announced in the Crimean airport Balbec, is still waiting for its interpretations, but the first conclusions can already be drawn from the biography of the newly appointed Minister.
Throughout his scientific activity Vasilyev studied the history of relations of the Russian Orthodox Church and the state in the twentieth century. Initially after receiving the conducting and choral studies at the Moscow state Institute of culture, she later graduated from the history Department of Moscow pedagogical state University the current, and relatively recently, in 2007, received the third highest — in the specialty “International relations” at the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian foreign Ministry.
Her PhD thesis was defended in 1990 at the Institute of history of the USSR and was called”the Soviet state and the activities of the Russian Orthodox Church during the great Patriotic war.”
Doctoral — “the Russian Orthodox Church in Soviet state policies in 1943-948.” — Vasilyev defended 9 years later, in 1999.
Other professional achievements Vasilyeva it is necessary to mark the position of head of the Department of Church-state relations in the Russian Academy of state service (rags). In addition, the new Minister for a long time was responsible for the journal “State, religion and Church in Russia and abroad”, also coming out in rags.
Finally, the last few years she served in the presidential Administration, was a member of the Council on the preparation of programmes for the study of history at Minobra and was part of the Commission for Affairs of religious associations under the Russian President.
Led Vasiliev and teaching activities, both at the history faculty of Humanities University Russian Academy of Sciences, and the Sretensky theological Seminary. To it also in 2000 invited Archimandrite Tikhon (Shevkunov), which the media called “the Confessor of Putin.” Vasilyeva read in the Seminary course on the history of the Russian Orthodox Church in the XX century, putting the history of the Church in the political context.
In addition, Vasiliev entered the newly established dissertation Council for theology.
Note that there are in the biography Vasilyeva and louder the facts. So, for life a convicted nationalist Ilya Goryachev, the court recognized the Creator of the Combat organization of Russian nationalists (BORN), remembered that Vasiliev was his first supervisor and gave him the Serbian topic (further activity Garceau was associated in particular with the Serbian nationalists).
In his interview, as a rule, devoted to the period of 40-60 years of the XX century the time of “Stalinist Renaissance” of the Russian Orthodox Church and the subsequent persecution of her during the Khrushchev Vasiliev restrained in the estimates, although, obviously, sympathetic to the Church. However, speaking about the second world war, she claimed that “in war there are no atheists” and sympathetically quoted from letters of those who fought priests, testified that the paper icons of St. Nicholas were taken from their bullets.
Known Vasiliev and appearances on various closed forums, in particular Crimea “Tavrida”. There, I wrote “Novaya Gazeta”, she told me that at the turn of 80-90-ies of the Soviet Union was falling apart on recipes of scientist Zbigniew Brzezinski: “publish “Ogonek” was aimed at the destruction of when a new story with the history of the Soviet.”
She stressed that the key idea Russian culture, formed in the old Russian literature “For the Russian land”, and the right to the history of Russia, she returned to Stalin: “Joseph Stalin said the words that were the beginning of rehabilitation of Russian history: “In the past we could not be of the Fatherland. But now that we have overthrown capitalism and power we have folk, we have a Fatherland, and we will defend its independence”.
