The foreign Ministry told about the possible meeting between Lavrov and Kerry on Syria


A source in the Russian foreign Ministry said that while early to speak about the upcoming August 26 in Geneva two-day meeting of the Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of state John Kerry on Syria, as reported by the Associated Press, citing unnamed American officials. While the Russian foreign Ministry did not rule out such a meeting and said that she directly linked to progress in talks between Russian and American experts.

According to “Interfax”, the foreign Ministry also noted that the meeting should not be Protocol-promotional in nature and must be filled with real content.

Western media reported that the meeting can go on a conversation on strengthening of the ceasefire regime in Syria, on intelligence sharing and strengthening military coordination in the fight against ISIS and al-Qaeda” (both organizations are banned in Russia).
