U.S. wanted to place nuclear weapons in Iceland

The United States was planning to secretly place nuclear warheads in Iceland in the 1950-ies. This is stated in the secret documents, made public in the framework of the project “national archive of the security services”.

In those years, Iceland has demanded that the U.S. guarantee that the country will not have a nuclear weapon. Therefore, Washington did not plan to notify the authorities.
