Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko made on Thursday 18 August a working visit to Lviv region, where in the course of his speech said that does not exclude not just the escalation of the conflict in the Donbas, but “a full-scale invasion of Russia in all directions”. He said he would introduce in this case the military situation in the country and mobilize, then the Ukrainian army will fight back on all fronts, including along the border with the Crimea.
The President of Ukraine, in particular, took part in honoring the memory of the dead pilots in the area of ATO in the city of Brody, Lviv region. To mention that last night the militia about 100 times fired on the positions of the Ukrainian Donbass forces, Poroshenko said that “the probability of escalation remains significant.” However, he added that the Ukrainian leadership does not rule out “full-scale Russian invasion in all directions”, reports “Interfax-Ukraine”.
The Ukrainian leader assured that the country’s Armed forces are ready to fight back “in the East … and along the administrative border with Crimea.”
Poroshenko also said that in case of aggravation of the situation in the Donbas and Crimea, the country’s leadership will be forced to introduce in Ukraine martial law and to declare the mobilization.
At the same time he hopes that Ukraine and its international partners will be able to establish political negotiations with Russia and to return the “channel format”. In his opinion the statements that were made in Russia about the possible withdrawal of the “Normandy format” are irresponsible.
