Russia’s permanent representative to the United Nations Vitaly Churki commented on the results of the meeting of the UN Security Council, which discussed the situation in Crimea. In his opinion, Kiev has initiated this meeting to distract attention from the conflict in the Donbass.
The meeting of the UN security Council on the situation in Crimea testifies that in Kiev there is “chaos”. This opinion was expressed by Russia’s permanent representative to the UN Vitaly Churkin, RIA Novosti reported.
According to him, Ukrainian authorities do not want to resolve the conflict in the East of the country, so trying to divert attention from the need to implement the Minsk agreements.
“They don’t know what to do with Donetsk. The Minsk agreement is quite clear, but they (Kiev — ed.) there is no political will to do what they should do,” said the diplomat told reporters. According to him, is the implementation of the agreements, Kiev diverts attention to other things.”
Churkin expressed hope that Ukraine will show prudence and not allow escalation in the relations between the two countries. “Unfortunately, there is no doubt, first, whether enough they are considered, and secondly whether they are able to control certain elements,” the diplomat said, referring to “extremist volunteer battalions operating in particular in the Donbass, reports TASS.
The meeting in the UN security Council on the situation in the Crimea was held on 11 August at the request of Ukraine. Before that, Russia announced the detention of a group of Ukrainian saboteurs on the Peninsula and the prevention of terrorist attacks, which were prepared under control of Ukrainian military intelligence.
According to the FSB, on the night of August 7 the Ukrainian special forces unit attempted to break into the territory of the Peninsula under cover of fire.
