Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in his message to Vladimir Putin used a Russian word “sorry”. We are talking about the letter that was sent to Putin in connection with the attack on Russian bomber su-24.
The Turkish newspaper Hurriyet, citing its diplomatic sources told what the wording was chosen in the famous penitential letter of Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Earlier, there were versions that had two options – a message for external and internal use. In one supposedly came the apology, in the other – only regret for the destruction of the aircraft and the death of the pilot Oleg Peshkov.
The publication writes that the text and the form of the letter agreed upon by the representatives of Turkey and Russia several times. Press Secretary of Erdogan Ibrahim Kalin worked on a message together with the Russian translators and diplomats from the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Ankara.
In the end, Kalin chose the Russian word for “sorry” is more powerful than “sorry” (sorry), but less formal than “sorry” (apology). “I want to Express my sympathy and deep condolences to the bereaved family of the Russian pilot and say, “sorry”, — stated in the message.
Relations between Ankara and Moscow is seriously complicated in November 2015, when the Turkish air force shot down a Russian su-24 bomber on the border with Syria. After that Russia has imposed on Turkey a number of restrictions, including banning the import of certain foodstuffs and repealing Charter flights and a visa-free regime.
