The ex-mayor of Yaroslavl Urlashov called “political ordering” sentence is 12.5 years


The former mayor of Yaroslavl Evgeny Urlashov was sentenced to 12.5 years in prison. He also must pay a fine in the amount of 42 million rubles.

The case Urlashov on bribery charges began in 2013. At the same time many experts considered his persecution political: the election of the mayor of the city in 2012 Urlashov was an independent candidate, but shortly before the arrest was announced about cooperation with the party Mikhail Prokhorov “Civic platform” and the intention to run in the Yaroslavl regional Duma.

Soon after the meeting, held in the city, Urlashov was detained. He was accused that in 2012-2013, he extorted a bribe of 18 million rubles from the head of the company “Radostroy”, threatening otherwise not to pay money for the previous contract with the city. During the transfer part of the sum — 14 million rubles — Urlashov, as claimed SK, he was arrested.

In addition, the charges included the information that the mayor received 17 million rubles from the Director of Artistree” for the transfer of the firm shares the “Urban road management”.

Only thing Urlashov had more than 60 volumes, and among the evidence were records of negotiations of the mayor with the businessmen, where he allegedly demanded money from them, although he Urlashov said that his words were interpreted incorrectly. As a result, the question of the judge about whether he understood the verdict, the former mayor replied “No”, calling it a political order. The lawyer of the politician also believes that the verdict “cruel” and said it will be appealed immediately after the court decision.

In addition to the mayor, today to 7 years in prison was sentenced and his Advisor Alexei Lopatin. Yesterday was acquitted a former Urlashov’s Deputy Dmitry Donskov, all the while being in jail.
