The plane on solar batteries for the first time in the history spread around the world


A round trip of a solar-powered aircraft Solar Impulse 2 last night successfully ended with the aircraft landing in Abu Dhabi. Intermittently breaking more than 40 thousand kilometers, the aircraft returned to the point where he began his journey on March 9, 2015.

Solar energy, which operates the plane, accumulate around 17 200 installed batteries. Aircraft is able to accelerate to 140 kilometres per hour and fly at altitudes of up to 8500 meters. It weighs 2,300 pounds, and the scope monocryl — 72 meters.

The journey of Solar Impulse 2 was composed of 17 stages, on nine of which the aircraft was flown by pilot Bertrand Piccard, and at eight — andré Borschberg. The first aircraft from the UAE arrived in Muscat in Oman, then from there went to India, where he landed twice: Ahmedabad and Varanasi. After that, the landing was made in Mandalay (Myanmar), Chinese, Chongqing and Nanjing, as well as in Nagoya Japanese. After the break the plane for a long time was flying over the US, having visited Hawaii in mountain view, Phoenix, Tulsa, Dayton, Lehigh Valley and finally in new York. The three remaining points at which the Solar Impulse 2, steel Seville (Spain), Cairo (Egypt) and finally, Abu Dhabi. The flight from Nagoya to Hawaii turned out to be the most distant (more than 7 thousand kilometers) and the longest (almost 118 hours in the air without landing)

According to the original plan, the aircraft had to return to Abu Dhabi in August last year, but it is significantly delayed. The longest delay was caused by the need to repair the damage the aircraft received in-flight from Japan to the Hawaiian Islands. Then the aircraft had to stay on the Ground with 3 July 2015 and 21 April 2016. However, despite this and a few other forced delays, experts involved in the organization of round-the-world flight, I believe that the project was implemented very successfully. However, although this success and allows us to speak about broad possibilities of using solar energy in the near future, planes on solar batteries for a regular carrier used will hardly recognize the experts.
