The US has been forced to postpone the adoption of the naval forces of the modern aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78), as the tests were revealed many shortcomings. Because of this, the military has recognized the ship ready for combat.
Also, the military has identified defects in systems of self-defense of the ship and the delivery of weapons.
“If these problems are not resolved, they will significantly limit the ability of CVN-78 on the conduct of hostilities”, – concluded in the report of the head of the operational testing for the Pentagon, Michael Gilmore. He also noted that the landing system of the aircraft carrier needs to be replaced.
As a result, the ship can be accepted until early 2017, whereas according to the project the aircraft carrier was to be ready in September 2014. Later the deadline was postponed to November this year.
