The procession of peace in Ukraine threatens to end bloodshed

The participants of all-Ukrainian religious procession in the world came to Kiev and intend to walk to the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. However, the nationalists, had already tried to stop the procession, installed on the approaches to the capital, roadblocks and promise to stop the pilgrims. Experts warn that the current situation is fraught with bloodshed.

On Monday, representatives of the Ukrainian nationalist organizations set up a second roadblock at the entrance to Kiev from Zhitomir), to prevent the participants of all-Ukrainian procession of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP) in the capital.

“It’s not the 15% of the population who believe in a visa-free regime, lace panties and evroassotsiatsiyu”

Earlier the nationalists had mounted a roadblock on the opposite side of the Kyiv – Boryspil highway. Over the roadblock raised by nationalist symbolism. The rule of law there is guarded by several dozen security forces. In turn, the deputies of the city Council of Boryspil of the Kyiv region banned the all-Ukrainian Procession of the UOC-MP on the territory of Boryspil.

According to TASS, the commander of the battalion of the OUN (Organization of Ukrainian nationalists”, banned in Russia) Nicholas Kochanowski has said that his subordinates will try to stop the movement of participants in the procession, despite the promised protection of pilgrims by the police. In turn, the speaker of “Right sector* Anton Skoropadsky said that the activists are preparing for “civil detention” of participants in the procession.

July 13, the militants “Right sector” tried to stop the pilgrims met them on the border of the Kharkiv and Poltava regions. Provocateurs, marching parallel to the column, shouting insulting slogans and threatened the faithful.

Pilgrims “sent” to Moscow

The public Prosecutor of Ukraine Yury Lutsenko at the end of last week said that did not support the initiative of this move and advised the buses with pilgrims to go to Moscow and there to mimic the move.” However, he promised to ensure the safety of people. According to the head of national police of Ukraine Khatia Dekanoidze, the order in Kiev during the procession of the faithful will provide 4.5 thousand employees of law enforcement bodies.

The split of the Orthodox churches in Ukraine, leaders priozyerye the head of the information Department of the non-canonical (and not recognized any of the local churches of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyivan Patriarchate Archbishop yevstratii (Zoria) called the procession “the March of the Russian world to Kiev” and “antimaydan”.

We will remind, the Ukrainian religious Procession of peace, love and prayer for Ukraine began in Svyatogorsky monastery in the East on 3 July, and on the West of Ukraine – 9 July at the Holy Dormition Pochayiv Lavra. On July 27, the eve of the Day of the baptism of Russia and the memory of Prince Vladimir, the two processions will meet in Kiev on Vladimirskaya Gorka and together with the Orthodox capital and pilgrims from all over Ukraine go to the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, where on July 27-28 will be held a solemn service.

In his farewell speech, the head of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church Metropolitan of Kiev and all Ukraine Onufry urged all believers to take an active part in the procession. The Patriarch noted that the course takes place in very difficult conditions: some media of the country cover it in a positive way, attempts to discredit its participants.

The procession as a detonator

“Now comes the critical two days, during which there is a very high risk of bloody clashes”

Ukrainian political analyst, former editor in chief of the newspaper “Kiev Telegraph” Vladimir Skachko convinced that the procession shows all over the country the existence of the other Ukraine, “not the one that rages on the Maidan”. “It’s not the 15% of the population who believe in a visa-free regime, lace panties and evroassotsiatsiyu… There are still people who believe in God, that he gives not only trouble, but also can ensure peace in this troubled land,” said Skachko the newspaper VIEW.

The expert believes that the Ukrainian authorities, their supervisors and instigators are afraid that the success of the procession “may be a dress rehearsal for protests against social genocide that is cool twists in the country and can absolutely explode the situation.” He did not rule out that such an explosion is possible in case of a sharp rise in prices – three-four times – for housing and communal services in the fall. “This could be the detonator. And the procession, according to the nationalist paradigm, can show that people are able to go. It’s like a trial balloon. If he’s going for a ride, then it is possible to pave the way. If you don’t ride, then you need to find a new path,” he said.

“Then bloody scenario is inevitable”

In turn, the Ukrainian political analyst Rostislav Ishchenko emphasizes that the nationalists try not to let the pilgrims in Kyiv, as most of the parishioners of the UOC-MP adhere to the anti-fascist views. “It is clear that in this case will come to Kiev opponents of the current regime. Radical moderate – all sorts! Still opponents. Ardent optimists talked about the fact that Kiev can come to half a million people, but even one hundred, forty, thirty, twenty thousand is already a lot. This is a demonstration of the fact that the Kiev Nazis to oppose, and that they do not control the situation in the country,” – said Ishchenko Newspapers LOOK.

That is why nationalists can’t just allow their opponents to campaign on the streets of Kiev. “Then why did you kill the Elder, imprisoned thousands of people, half of them just disappeared… what to do if you on the streets of Kiev will leave tens of thousands of your opponents?” – he explained.

Another reason is that opponents of the procession began to actively oppose the event, even long before the vote, so now it is difficult to pretend this move doesn’t bother anyone. “If they miss a procession in Kiev, doing nothing, so they will sign in their own powerlessness. Now comes the critical two days, during which there is a very high risk of bloody clashes, simply because this procession may attack,” – said Rostislav Ishchenko.

The expert does not undertake to assume, will it be possible for the authorities to keep the events under control and avoid bloodshed. The situation is dangerous because among the nationalists there are armed men and if they decide to counter, then stopping them will be difficult. “Even in law enforcement agencies serve those same Nazis. For two years the interior Ministry and the army and the same national guard was largely unified, i.e. opponents of the regime were fired, and scored all sorts of criminals and Nazis. So the question is, will decide or not decide to attack. If you choose this, then the bloody scenario is inevitable. If still scared, then bloodshed will be avoided. But the likelihood of bloody provocations big,” predicts Ishchenko.
