Poroshenko dissatisfied with the decision of Poland to recognize the Volyn massacre as genocide

The Polish Sejm (lower house of Parliament) after the Senate has recognized the Volyn massacre, which occurred during the Second world war, the genocide of the Polish population by Ukrainian nationalists. In addition, Parliament declared 11 July as the National day of remembrance of the victims of this tragedy. President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has expressed a regret in connection with the decision of the Saeima, noting that many will want to use it for political speculations.

During the sitting of the Parliament for the adoption of the respective resolution voted 432 MP, and 10 abstained. Against was not a single voice. Now the crime of the organization of Ukrainian nationalists (OUN) and the Ukrainian insurgent army (UPA) against the poles in Volhynia in 1943-1944 officially recognized as genocide.

One of the authors of the project, the Deputy Michal dvorchik said before the vote that the murder was committed not by the Ukrainian people as a whole and several thousand particular people acting in particular in the OUN-UPA (organization banned in Russia) and the SS division “Galicia”, reports RIA Novosti.

The resolution States that the Parliament pays tribute to all the citizens of the Second Polish Republic, “brutally murdered by Ukrainian nationalists”. While the document mentions about Polish repression of Ukrainians, “which also killed civilians” (we are talking about retaliatory acts of revenge – note).

The document States that as a result of the genocide were killed more than 100 thousand poles, but the exact number of victims of ethnic cleansing are still not installed. In particular, the Ukrainian side considers inflated estimate of 100 thousand poles killed considering that the conflict has killed up to 30 thousand people, reports RBC.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that he regretted the decision of the Polish Sejm. “I know many will want to use it for political speculations,” — he wrote on his page in Facebook. The Ukrainian head of state noted that in this situation, two people must return to the commandments “forgive and ask forgiveness” and so we come to the “Christian reconciliation”.

Recall that previously the Polish Minister of defence Antony, Macierewicz said that “the true culprits of the destruction of the Polish population of Volhynia was Moscow, which allegedly used the Ukrainian nationalists to organize the genocide.

Commenting on this statement, the official representative of Russian foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova asked in Warsaw whether actually historical events in which Russia is to blame. She also noted that Warsaw “from household Russophobia quietly slipping into the incitement of national hatred”.
