Unusual crystal, previously discovered in the dust of the meteorite “Chelyabinsk”, contrary to a long-awaited version is hardly a diamond. Experts of the Chelyabinsk state University “Misa” came to this conclusion after he conducted further investigations in this object. Reports that during the examination of the Chelyabinsk meteorite experts have discovered an unusual carbon crystal, appeared in February of last year. He may be a diamond, was launched immediately, although experts recognize that such an assumption requires very careful inspection.
In further studies, scientists have found that the crystal lacks the characteristic of diamond. It also transpires that the object is not three-dimensional, as originally intended, and two-dimensional structure, which, according to experts, raises further questions about its origin.
So far, the experts are considering two main versions of how was formed the unusual material — it may have occurred at the entry of the meteorite into the Earth’s atmosphere, but it is possible that the crystal was formed under high pressure in outer space.
In the next step to better understand the nature of an unusual object will attempt experts from the laboratory of the Technical University of Darmstadt, in which the crystal was recently directed to conduct a study on the microdiffraction.
