The culprit of unusual earthquakes in California, geologists announced the moon

Tidal forces arising from the separation and convergence of the Earth with Moon influence, including the strength of earthquakes in California. To such conclusion the group of researchers under the leadership of Paul Johnson from the National Observatory in Los Alamos.

Tidal forces arise in the objects freely moving in a nonuniform force field. In the case of the Earth and the moon we are talking about gravitational interactions of our planet and its satellite, which during its rotation in the earth’s orbit then approaching, then moving away from it. The most obvious and well-known result of this process are the tides on Earth, after which tidal forces got its name. But a new study argues in favor of the almost daily earthquakes in the vicinity of a break the dignity-Andreas and tidal forces are also interrelated.

The specialists of Geological service of the USA, drew attention to the fact that the frequency and strength of tremors in this area slightly varied depending on the time of day, and to explain it to any processes inside the Earth itself was difficult.

As shown by the study of this phenomenon, the frequency of earthquakes ranged in accordance with the same 14-day cycles that influence the gravity of the moon to the Earth. When tidal power was waning, earthquakes occurred frequently, and when amplified — less, and geologists were surprised that they revealed that is, not an inverse relationship. To find out which ways the interaction of moon and earth’s gravity affect the intensity of earthquakes, scientists expect in the future.

The work of researchers published in the scientific journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
