The exhibition “War and peace” of Vadim Sidur was scandalous

By the way, it appeared only three years after his death, in 1989 (the sculptor died 30 years ago). The Soviet government of Vadim Sidur was not recognized, kept in pariah status. After all, he did not cling, with the titles not being chased. Never joined groups, worked private. Of exhibitions around the country practically are not conducted. After the collapse of the USSR his works were appreciated, but nevertheless works on the streets of Russia time-two and miscalculated. But many of his works adorn the prestigious area of Germany and the United States.

At the exhibition understand why. All these ladies writhing, struggling men, dancing and flying creatures energized. They have no nationality, age and time; reflect the eternal universal themes: the danger of environmental catastrophe, the search for harmony in a crumbling world, the horror of war and violent death…

– Vadim Sidur man with a tragic fate: in 1942, came to the front, and two years later received a gunshot wound. – says the Museum’s Director Yaroslav Alyoshin. – A person is turned into a solid wound with a hole, and he is permanently disabled. But that did not stop him after the war to reflect in their work that is the subject of the world, it begins with our exhibition.

Here are the kissing sculpture, happy cyclists on the bright ceramics lovers in the chart, and even a carved linoleum, showing the color of the lion with flowers. So Siddur inherent affection, love, tenderness, simple things. By the way, the Master firmly believed in the traditional idea that love is the only way of salvation for mankind, capable to protect from evil.

The main evil on earth, in the Siddur, the violence. He devoted the next room, where there were the tragic sculpture of the wounded. Interestingly, in contrast to the official art, in these works there is no hint of the heroic beginning. These desperate images filled with compassion, crying out for mercy and prayer. The Siddur has created an entire philosophical system, one of the Central places in which the artist is a prophet, warning people about possible global catastrophes.

In 1970-ies he created a cycle of works “Coffin-Art” and “Iron prophets”, which ends the exposition. Here the sculptor is thinking about, “what leads mankind to machine civilization”. Hence the number of creatures similar to the auto-mechanisms, screws and nuts. Exhibits a few dozen, but the small Museum they are not overloaded. In General, the Siddur experts believe it is very organic and appropriate for any space, so it is strange that in the streets they are almost there.
