When the “open” Turkey: ATOR operates, the government is silent, waiting for tourists

The situation with the possible resumption of flights to Turkey remains unclear. While the Russian government has forbidden citizens of the Russian Federation direct flights to Turkey the Association of tour operators of Russia declare that they hope for a speedy resumption of Charter communications with the country.

We will remind that this morning the newspaper “Izvestia” with reference to the words of the Executive Director of the Association Maya Lomidze wrote that the Charter between Russia and Turkey is supposedly not exactly resume this, and possibly next year due to enhanced security requirements of tourists from Russia.

Soon Lomidze in an interview to “Interfax”, however, denied the report, saying that the work on the resumption of flights is continuing, and the text “News” corresponds neither to her nor to the real situation.

Lomidze expressed the hope that the timing of the resumption of flights will be announced soon.

Recall that so far, however, the government of the Russian Federation as reaction to the military coup attempt in Turkey, in principle, banned airlines to sell tickets in Turkey to citizens of Russia.

While the former hopes for the resumption of economic cooperation between Turkey and Russia previously refuted, not only in terms of tourism: the Minister of agriculture Alexander Tkachev, speaking about the support of domestic producers, said that the restoration of supplies of Turkish fruits and vegetables “is not on the agenda”.

Experts analysing the tourist market of the Russian Federation, noted that the reluctance of Russia to renew the Charter related to the low occupancy rate of the Crimean resorts, where the “closed” Turkey and Egypt will be forced to go the Russians.

Experts also remind that the low cost package tours to Turkey had a lot to do with the availability of cheap Charter flights. And the expectations of the “opening” of Turkey influenced the decline in the value of permits in Tunisia (40%) and other traditional destinations beach holidays (up to 10-15%). Now prices are beginning to return to the previous level in the uncertainty of the situation.

Tourists, however, according to major tour operators, prefer not to cancel the application and to carry them into the future, still hoping that Turkey will open soon.
