Erdogan said that two of his personal bodyguards were killed when they protected him from the participants of a failed coup.

“In Marmaris, the operation was conducted against me. My two guards were killed. If I’d stayed for an additional 10-15 minutes, I would be killed or captured,” said the Turkish leader in an interview to CNN.

Erdogan said that on Friday, the 15th of July, about ten o’clock he was informed about the events in Ankara and Istanbul riots, after which he and his family decided to leave the hotel. The Turkish leader said that was in Marmaris in a five-day vacation.

Previously, the Internet was published a video, which captured the shootout between the participants of armed rebellion, and the protection of the President Erdogan in a hotel in Marmaris. The Turkish leader was able to leave the hotel for half an hour before these events.

We will remind, on the night of July 16 in Turkey was an attempted coup. A group of soldiers put on the streets of Ankara and Istanbul armor over the cities circling military helicopters and fighter jets, but the rebellion was suppressed. During the coup, killed 290 people.

After the failed coup the Turkish government started personnel Stripping. At the moment detained more than six thousand people, among them – representatives of the military leadership, judges, prosecutors, government officials.

Experts believe that the coup was orchestrated by Erdogan to clean up the government from the opposition and to turn Turkey from a secular state into an Islamic Republic. So, the President of the Institute of Middle East Yevgeny Satanovsky called Turkish coup a brilliant provocation.
