…Beads, stones, pearls, embroidered headdresses, lush boyar caftans, airy tutus — all this you will find in the house-Museum Chaliapin on Novinsky Boulevard at the newly opened the exhibition “the Fabulous heritage”, dedicated to the works of Elena Zaitseva — costume designer of the Bolshoi theatre.
HELP “MK”. Elena Zaitseva only during his service in the Bolshoi theatre has created many costumes for more than 55 Russian and international productions. In 1991 he graduated from LGITMiK, then worked at Lenfilm as a costume designer. From 1997 — at the Mariinsky theatre since 2001 — in “the New Opera”. Finally, since 2003 — in the Bolshoi theater for the first time introduced the position of chief specialist in the design, production and maintenance of costumes.
In this exposition we have combined the legacy of two eras — says “MK” curator of the exhibition Svetlana Zaslavskaya, — namely, the costumes and sketches of scenery artists who worked in the time of Feodor Chaliapin (which, by the way, he participated in the creation of costumes), and modern work of Elena Zaytseva for such operas as “Ruslan and Ludmila”, “the Tsar’s bride” etc. Elena, in fact, restored costumes according to the sketches of the nineteenth century; some created by her from scratch. That is, the task was to revive the “too Russian” style, style incredible luxury. Look at the vestments of “Ruslan and Lyudmila”: the costumes are richly decorated with stones and pearls…
The exhibition is based in three halls. In the Opera just is suits Zaitseva for “the Tsar’s bride”, “Ruslan and Lyudmila”. All embroidered with beads, pearls, intricate patterns in gold thread. Here you can find a costume for Fyodor Chaliapin as Ivan the terrible, and also sketches Korovin, Kustodiev, Feodor Golovin is still the same “Royal bride.” In the second hall for the Grand pas from “Paquita” ballet presented three packs, admirable: made in the same style, very similar complex but without repeated patterns. The third hall is dedicated to the ballet “Jewels” choreography by George Balanchine, respectively tutu “Emeralds” green, “Rubies” red and “Diamond” white.
The Director of the Museum. Glinka (which includes Chaliapin branch) Mikhail Bryzgalov noted the high class work of Elena Zaytseva, comparable with the legacy of the old masters: “If you don’t read the label to suit, can be mistaken in the authorship, not being an art critic”.
The Word Svetlana Zaslavskaya:
— Elena good basic education, especially for the history of costume. After all, his creation – a very delicate creative process, which Elena possesses great tact. Her knowledge and experience help, on the one hand, to recreate, and on the other it can create new, unique images that look bright and dignified on stage.

— Svetlana, what do you think, goes to whether the era of the complex, decorated and historically accurate costumes?
— The image of the hero, his costume is dependent on the view of the author from the Director. And, of course, suit should be comfortable with the artist, dance parties, so that the stones are not scratched my face… I believe that the creation of sophisticated costumes are not going anywhere. Such beautiful productions as “Boris Godunov”, “the Nutcracker” is to create a special, fabulous, bright mood. Therefore, the beauty, the wealth will always be very popular with the audience.Related posts:
