He, according to TASS, said that the opening ceremony will take place on August 3, two days before the official anniversary of the eagle. The city was founded by Ivan the Terrible in 1566 to protect the southern borders of the country.

Note that the installation of the monument has already sparked protests by local residents. One of their arguments was that it would break the ensemble of the square, which is a children’s theatre “Free space”: this, in particular, said Director Alexander Mikhailov.

Another critic of the sculpture was graduading Viktor Pankov, released yesterday to picket under the slogan “do not put the Monuments by force”. His unwillingness to see the city’s “monument to the infanticide supported the journalist Georgiy Sargsyan and writer Vladimir Ermakov.

Note that the protests did not bother the Governor Patomskogo: he stated that the monument “should be” and, in his opinion, will not interfere with anybody.

Earlier plans for the installation of the monument was marked by yet another scandal, local media reported that the sketch of the monument was stolen by the sponsor for the contest Oleg Molchanov sculptor Irina Makarova.

Sculptures dedicated to Ivan the terrible avoided even in times of the Russian Empire. So, on the monument “Millennium of Russia” in Veliky Novgorod, at the time, with incredible cruelty, a devastated Grozny in 1569, the figure of this king is missing. Didn’t he set up a monument in the XX century.

We also add that in recent months in Russia began to appear monuments to Joseph Stalin, who considered his terrible “teacher”: so, the statue of Stalin appeared in the Crimea, a bust of him was opened at the insistence of the Minister of culture of the Russian Federation Vladimir Medinsky in the Tver region, is vigorously discussed the possible installation of a monument in Novosibirsk.

Meanwhile, the recent surge in the popularity of the theme of Ivan the terrible in social networks was associated with the occurrence of numerous memes “Ivan the terrible kills…” Here are a few specimens of folk art.
