The meeting was useful, and the discussion is open and sincere, told reporters after the meeting of the Council NATO-Russia, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg. Thus he noted that today failed to bring closer the positions of Russia and the bloc.
“We had an open, sincere discussion, the atmosphere at the meeting was good but we disagreed (with each other). Of course, we still observe a disagreement between Russia and NATO in terms of analysis and assessment of the causes of the current situation”, — quotes RIA Novosti” the words of Stoltenberg.
First of all, the parties separated, discussing the first item on the agenda is Ukraine.
Apparently, NATO sees Moscow to blame the actions of the militia. At least, Stoltenberg said that violations of ceasefire in Ukraine intensified and called on all parties to implement the Minsk agreements.
Another issue was the security of flying over the Baltics. Russia suggested, in particular, to use transponders when flying military aircraft. Stoltenberg said that NATO will have to wait from the Russian side the details of such proposals. He gave to understand that it’s not just the transponders, and most importantly – safe behavior, because in his opinion it was the Russian pilots demonstrate insecure behavior, drawing closer to the ships and aircraft of NATO.
At the same time, he welcomed the desire of Russia to take measures to reduce risks. He stated that channels of communication between NATO and Russia are now open and remains to use them to reduce the risks of military incidents.
In turn, Russia’s permanent representative to NATO Alexander Grushko criticized the measures taken by the Alliance at its summit in Warsaw. He called them redundant, counterproductive, and confrontational character. We are talking about the consequences for the European and regional security, NATO’s decision to strengthen its military capacity and increasing military activity on the Eastern flank, said Grushko. He believes that the Alliance has taken steps to return the parties to the schemes to ensure security during the cold war.
He added that Russia does not pose a danger to members of the Alliance and is not interested in a confrontational model of relations. However, if you read the final Declaration of the NATO summit, the Alliance says the same thing.
Grushko said that the danger of the current situation is that policy is built on the basis of the mythical threat from Russia and all of this takes the form of military planning and military preparations at the borders of the Russian Federation. The territory of East European countries declared the frontline and becomes a base for military deployments and pressure on Russia, Grushko noted.
Grushko also criticized NATO assistance to Ukraine. He believes that in this way the Alliance play up the “party of war” in Kiev and heated revanchist. He said that Russia is alarming is the fact that the instructor NATO Ukrainian military personnel deployed to the conflict zone.
Grushko also said that Russia is ready for consultation with NATO on safety in the Baltic region, but in order to stabilize relations the Alliance should reduce its military activity. “Russia can not but pay attention to the new military reality in Eastern Europe”, – said Grushko.Related posts:
