In Perm, found the remains of elephants by age 200 thousand years


In Perm Krai, archaeologists discovered the lower jaw of an ancestor of a mammoth that is 200 thousand years. This discovery was made during excavations of the skeleton trogonterievy elephant in Hanscom area conducted in 2013.

Over three field seasons the expedition had extracted the tusks, part of the scapula, spine, ribs, jaw and a tooth of the animal.

In addition to jaw the scientists also found large bones of the extremities. Boxes with valuable find will be delivered to Perm Thursday for further study.
