Burial XIII century mummy was found on the Yamal Peninsula

On the territory of the archaeological complex of “Zelenyi Yar”, located in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous district, was discovered a new ancient burial ground. For two decades, during which this territory are carried out archaeological work, the specialists have managed to discover the mummified human remains of the XIII century, experts say.

The researchers note that on the territory of the archaeological complex of valuable finds have been done in 2000 and in 2015. Only archeologists found 30 tombs and mummies is almost 12 and all of them were the mummies of women and children. One of the most valuable finds scientists call detected in 2000, a mummy of a male warrior. Also in 2015, experts have found birch cocoon length of 1.3 meters and a width of about 30 centimeters, inside which was a mummy of a boy of 6-7 years. Now the DNA of the mummy learning professionals to more accurately determine the age of the child and his ethnicity, and, if possible, to find out the cause of his death, if the researchers succeed to detect DNA of the pathogens of infectious and parasitic diseases.

The current expedition, in which archaeological work is conducted on an area of about 110 square meters, will be completed the day after tomorrow, July 10, after which the scientists will study the remains to determine sex and to determine causes of death. In archaeological works, is the Scientific centre of Arctic research, established in 2010.
