Merkel: to ensure security in Europe without Russia is impossible

German Chancellor Angela Merkel ahead of the NATO summit in Warsaw, said that to ensure security in Europe in the long term is possible only with the participation of Russia, “but not in spite of it”.

Merkel stressed that the NATO Alliance will continue to build relations with Russia on the basis of the Founding act of 1997. The cooperation of the Alliance with Moscow depends on the implementation of the Minsk agreements on Ukraine, she added.

“Deterrence and dialogue, solidarity with our partners in the Alliance and extended hand for dialogue is not in conflict,” stated Germany’s position in NATO and Russia Merkel during a speech in the Bundestag.
