Impoverished Ukrainians: “After the increase in utility tariffs people have taken shelter”

In Kiev held a March to protest against rising housing prices and for pay reform. Obviously very heavy tariffs on “communal”, which came into effect from 1 July in Ukraine, threatening to “push to stop” even relatively stable in the financial sense family. To say nothing of pensioners, “the non-Union values” with their 2-tysyacheletiye payments.

In the center of the Ukrainian capital for a March and rally gathered several thousand people. We talked with one of the Ukrainian pensioners to understand the cause of the protest.

– My son is considered: two-bedroom apartment that he rents with his wife and 7-year-old daughter, will now “pull” from the family budget 3 thousand 400 hryvnias (8 840 rubles – “MK”), complains “MK” pensioner Igor. – Sasha on granite quarry receives from the power of 2 thousand a month (5 200 rubles – “MK”). They have the 7th Director was replaced; the present boss for 22 years, he has no higher, or even secondary special education…

Wife of Alexander, Tatiana, was a teacher in a rural school (to be arranged in the gymnasium difficult and is quite expensive), earns too little: 3 and a half thousand hryvnia.

The reason “everything is expensive”, from the category of “good intentions.” The government of Vladimir Groisman decided on a bold step: equate the cost of natural gas for industrial enterprises that “burners”, that is, for the population. Why? To eradicate once and for all “corruption”, something which really requires Ukraine to the IMF.

But it’s quite possible that Thursday will begin a gradual departure from the recently published outrageous gas prices. Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy for the resumption of productive parliamentary work announced Wednesday the formation of a parliamentary Commission of inquiry on rates.

Almost simultaneously resumed traffic on the street Grushevskogo in Kiev, suspended a 5-thousand protesters rally against the coming of rampant impoverishment of the Ukrainians. Union leaders, supposedly on their own (and not at the request of some politicians) who organized today’s March along Khreshchatyk street and up “the Pear” was adopted by the head of government. After parting with Volodymyr Groysman almost bosom friends. That, however, did not prevent them to threaten “in the event of failure to comply with” all-Ukrainian strike.

Deputies of the Verkhovna Rada, wrecked Wednesday on the occasion of “preventive demonstration” work of the Supreme legislative body, not hide their satisfaction with his actions.

Joined the faction “Batkivschyna” and the Radical party of Oleh Lyashko media magnate Vadim Rabinovich called the main result of the failed essentially parliamentary day “victory of the healthy forces that require priority to stop the draconian tariffs.” He predicted as one of the possible dissolution of the current Parliament of the 8th convocation.

“MK” has found out from experts, which can lead to citizens ‘ dissatisfaction with higher tariffs.

Alexander Dudchak, the Ukrainian political scientist, the economist:

– Theoretically could increase the minimum wage, but this is unlikely. People turn into cheap labor. The population is immersed in such conditions of existence under which we have to take care of the last housing. Housing prices will rise further. Despite the fact that the average pension does not allow you to pay the rent and provide themselves with food and medicines. But the revolution is unlikely to break out.

Mikhail Pogrebinsky, Director of Kiev center of political researches and conflictology:

– Yulia Tymoshenko is interested in parliamentary elections and in the swaying of protest. She wants him to lead. The majority in the Parliament and the President, this, of course, are not interested. But to cancel the tariffs, no one will. Ukraine cannot survive without IMF loans, and the organization needs further improvement. I think in extreme cases, power will depict the steps for the population, but nothing will change. Some of the explosion, the dissolution of Parliament, I do not predict.

Denis Denisov, head of the Kiev branch of the Institute of CIS countries:

– People in all regions receive pensions and salaries not correlated with the money spent on purchasing necessities and paying for utilities. Similar protests will gain momentum. And political parties such as “Fatherland” and “Radical party”, trying to get on this wave and to receive dividends. It is very likely that these parties contributed to the delivery of citizens to protest in Kiev. Due to obligations to the IMF, Ukraine will continue to slide to the strengthening of social tension, but the preconditions for early elections there. The President was quite satisfied with the current BP.
