With “the Grand Tour: a Russian version” we have made a photographic journey to Rome, Naples and Venice, finally came the turn of Florence. It has become a mandatory destination because of its history. Here was the birthplace of Dante Alighieri, Dostoevsky wrote most of “Idiot”, and Tchaikovsky considered it a source of inspiration. In the centre of Florence in Piazza Demidoff is a monument to the Russian industrialist Nikolay Demidov. He founded a charity house for orphans and the elderly, donated large money for the construction and restoration of churches. Look at the picture: the facade of the famous Cathedral Santa Maria del Fiore decorated with the family coat of arms Demidovs.
In 50-ies of the XIX century, the capital of Tuscany is becoming an important photographic center of Italy. Scenic and architectural images were popular with travelers who bought images of monuments of the Renaissance. The early history of photography in Florence, is associated primarily with two family businesses – Alinari and Brogi. Compared to images of the Alinari brothers pictures Giacomo Brogi rigorous and concise, emphasize the finest architectural detail.
Fortunately, the works of both families there is no tragedy, but more of admiring the city and the skill of the photographers of the second half of the twentieth century. By the way, artists from all over Italy, whose works have been collected by Paul and Anastasia Khoroshilova, was drawn to Florence, to its squares, museums, sculptures, and today have to pull hundreds of tourists from all over the world. However, these vintage photo little people, because at the time it was required to shoot with a long exposure. And this gives a special charm to the ancient buildings.
The architectural theme continues in the exhibition “Leningrad” Sergey Shimansky. The headquarters, a monument to Peter I Academy of fine arts the masterpieces of Rastrelli, Rossi, Falconet and caught in the frame in solitude. This work 60 years ago was published in the book series “Architectural monuments in art photography, published a set of cards, so many that it was sightseeing of St. Petersburg.
