Platform Cursera cooperate with both foreign and Russian universities: in particular, HSE, MIPT, MEPhI, MISIS and others. The total audience of the portal where you can listen to take courses leading universities and for a fee to obtain their certificates, will consist of 15 million people.

The head of the Institute of education development HSE Isak Frumin told “Kommersant” that after his talks with one of the founders Cursera, a teacher from Stanford, Daphne Koller, she agreed that the sanctions ban violates human rights to education.

In the end, she managed to mobilize the scientific community in the United States, and as a result the Office of Foreign Assets Control (a division of the American Ministry of Finance) issued a special license for Cursera to work in the Crimea.

This was the first case of cancellation of sanctions against Russia from the United States after their introduction in 2014.
