To limit the movement on the border of Russia with Poland nationalists are guilty

4 July temporarily suspended visa-free border crossing of Poland by the Russians-inhabitants of the Kaliningrad region and the Russian border — the poles from the border territories. This first step went Poland, Russia responded with a “mirror”. Our expert is sure that this is evidence of a serious worsening of relations between the two countries, initiated by the current government of Poland.

As you know, Poland explained its decision by the need to ensure the safety of the two important international events: the NATO summit, which will be held in Warsaw on 8-9 July, World youth day, scheduled for 20-31 July (their plans to visit Pope Francis). The Russian foreign Ministry, in turn, drew attention to the fact that the agreement on cross-border movement, the Polish authorities have suspended without prior consultation with the Russian side.

A political scientist, first Vice-President of the Center for political technologies, Alexei Makarkin, has told “MK” about what is behind these events:

“I think these events will mean the deterioration of relations between Russia and Poland, which will be primarily the result of the policy of the ruling now in Poland the nationalist right-wing party “law and justice” Jaroslaw Kaczynski.

If the party “Civic platform” Donald Tusk, who was there in power before, focused more on the European Union, the German government, and eventually sought to have normal relations with Russia, “law and justice” focusing more on the US and the Euro-Atlantic solidarity, and comes from the fact that Russia is the potential enemy and must be contained.

Evidence that relations between our countries deteriorated, in recent years many: the story of the deployment of additional battalions of NATO at our borders in Poland and the return of the Polish authorities to the circumstances of the TU-154 crash near Smolensk in 2010 and attempt to lay responsibility for it on Russia… And now the border, a diplomatic conflict.

To avoid any further stories of this kind is impossible, and we must treat them seriously.”
