A fundamentally new method of creation was represented by the specialists from the Massachusetts Institute of technology. In just a week with it can be developed an effective tool, which scientists expect could stop any epidemic. In the experiment on mice developed technology showed one hundred percent effective.
A vaccine is a molecular strands of the matrix, or RNA — genetic material that can “write” code for proteins, viruses, bacteria or parasites. Special RNA molecules are delivered to cells where they provoke the necessary immune response.
In addition, this method may be effective against a variety of infectious diseases, it can also prove to be effective in several other cases: in particular, the researchers suggest that with their method you can “teach” the immune system to fight cancer. In any case, in order to create a vaccine against any disease the new technology requires only a week, says Daniel Anderson, one of the developers of the method.
To date, vaccines typically are created using an inactive form of the virus or other pathogen, but this approach requires time-consuming, and in the case of some diseases could be too dangerous in itself. Another approach to the production of vaccines involves the use of proteins secreted by malicious microorganism, however, the effectiveness of this approach is confirmed not always. In turn, RNA vaccines generated by the new method, allow to create multiple copies of foreign proteins, while not exposing the body of danger and causing a sufficiently powerful immune response.
Experts say that the idea, to which they approached, in varying degrees, hovering in the air for nearly three decades, however, the main problem still seemed to find a way to “delivery” of the molecule. Now this method managed to find, the researchers said.
Scientists report that tested the vaccine, created by the new method, on laboratory mice, the rodents have developed immunity to the virus Ebola and swine flu, and parasites of the species Toxoplasma gondii.Related posts:
