For many years of his life in Europe and America I never heard the question: and how at you in Russia belong to us, to our country? Even in the USA — the most powerful world powers — comes to mind, that somewhere in the overseas territories to somebody cares America. You can ask in the order of idle curiosity, what is the Russian winter, how many of us time zones, what are the most popular dishes of Russian cuisine and how I personally relate to President Putin. But about the attitude of Russians to America do not ask — although I could have a lot to tell, mostly unpleasant.
Stories on this theme, however, sounds from the TV screen: reporters and commentators to inform the Americans that their country is so unpopular in Russia that it’s considered the originator of all evils and hostile power. But these messages are few listens, because unlike the Russians, the Americans hardly watch TV, and if you look, the more often entertainment show, not a policy. And even less interested in foreign policy — God forbid with their problems to deal with.
Another difference between them and us, the Western people don’t believe the media — just like they don’t trust politicians. Or her or a stranger. People do not associate themselves with the state bureaucracy: politics, the government, the state apparatus is one thing, but people, ordinary people — is another. In Russia, anyway: here it is preserved the old Soviet mentality that the government is deliberately planted for seven decades. No wonder the streets of Soviet cities were adorned with the slogan: “the People and the party United”. The people and the party and state apparatus were not uniform, they lived in two different worlds, but people relentlessly hammered the myth of identity, nation and state, and the effect of this propaganda is felt to this day, a quarter century after the disappearance of the Soviet Union. However, there is nothing surprising: the rulers of post-Soviet Russia continue to pollinate the minds of citizens the thesis that any criticism of the Russian authorities is “anti-Russian activities” and “Russophobia”. These outreach settings determine the psychological climate in Russian society and the direction of legislation that will generate in favor of the Executive authority of the Federation Council and the state Duma.
Surprisingly another: why did the Russians accept at face value the explicit, visible to the naked eye displacement or a combination of the concepts of “nation” and “state”? Russia’s population is well educated, the Russians have a wider erudition than those Americans, but drat — not in the horse feed! Millions of smart people believe in the need cerimoniously laws adopted ostensibly to protect Russia from the encroachments of the external and internal enemies. Believe, ignoring the obvious truth: throughout the history of mankind, the ruling regimes used the psychology of a besieged fortress as a weapon to maintain their power. To the interests of the people that have never had a relationship. But the Russians believe…
The British voted for their country’s exit from the European Union, although the ruling elite of great Britain tried to convince them that without the EU there is no happiness in their lives for anyone in Europe. The British looked at the Norwegians, the Swiss and the Icelanders, who live as good as they are without the EU; looked at the Brussels bureaucracy, with its organizational and financial helplessness and exaggerated political correctness — and voted against their politicians. That hypocritically call themselves servants of the people, actually serve the corporations: for corporations, the EU and other integration-globalization — that is necessary, and for the people — has a lot of trouble.
The British lack of “unity between the party and the people” — a manifestation obschezapadnuyu trends. No less striking manifestation of the phenomenon of Donald trump in America. A crook, a cheat, a braggart, a clown — call it what you want, but it is not from the political elite, not from government, not from tolerant, politically correct world of the Clintons, the bushes, Obama, Kerry and their ilk. Any alternative to the establishment — that’s good. In any case, the American voter thinks it is the lesser of two evils.
Throughout Europe — from the Czech Republic and Hungary to France and Spain — are rapidly gaining points populists, nationalists, separatists and other traffic, alternative establishment. And in Russia? The establishment enjoys a solid support of the people, despite the obvious failures in the economy, social policy, and international Affairs. The Russians seem satisfied with what their country to the outside world becomes all the more frightening. Afraid — means respect. Although any coat can be made from this respect for brute force, it is difficult to understand.
The ruling party wants the people interested in “attitudes” to identify the manifestation of “Russophobia,” and people interested in shows. I have just arrived in Moscow after a vacation in Croatia (where no one kept conversation with me about politics), and the first thing I heard from my highly educated friend, a Moscow Professor, was the issue of anti-Russian sanctions of the EU which Croatia participated, and the counter-sanctions of Russia against its products. I was forced to disappoint his friend in Croatia at every step you hear the Russian language (although German is more common), our partying on the Adriatic hurl buy in stores the Russian vodka in addition to the Croatian “Malvasia” and “Grasevina”, and the subject of sanctions quickly disappears from the thoughts of vacationers. Croats don’t care where you were from Russia or Germany, as long as regularly money unfastened and replenish the pockets of the local population and Treasury in Zagreb.
I was still in the three “enemy” countries — Germany, Czech Republic and Austria. And there too, found many of our (and tourists, and is constantly living), and no trace of the sanctions confrontation. On Russia, the Europeans in everyday life do not say their media have little to write about Russia, not enough to broadcast about it on television; European countries live with their own concerns, immigration and refugees, weak economic growth, environmental problems, etc. When it comes to energy supply, reminisce about Russia — mostly in the way that it would be good to get rid of dependence on Moscow. Political elites, however, do not consider this relationship a serious problem, but in addition to the establishment in each of these countries there are other social forces and there is a distrust of the establishment from the people. But there is, by the way, the confidence of ordinary people-Westerners to ordinary people-the Russians — if they are certainly not acting as officers, seconded by the Kremlin for propaganda among the local population.
…Somewhere six months ago in the us Boston came back in scientific exchange friend from St. Petersburg with astonishment told me that a month and a half in America have never heard of questions about Russia. “And we perceived ourselves to be the navel of the Earth — I think only about us and say that Russia is on everyone’s mind and tongue…” — he stated.
The Russians, who are in the West, you see the true picture. The only trouble is that overseas travels only a small minority of Russian citizens — even in the “Dobrynska” 2013, less than 15%, and it’s barely more than 10%. The rest form their opinion about the relationship between Russia and the outside world based on what they tell the propagandists of the Federal TV channels — socially close to the establishment and far from frightening people.Related posts:
