Drinking establishment era of the Empress Elizabeth Petrovna was discovered by archaeologists in the heart of the capital. The old tavern was located next to the theater. And not far from this place, as it became known “MK”, scientists have found a prototype of the license of the taxi driver.

The largest of the latest findings – the tavern of the eighteenth century. The Foundation and remnants of the areas investigated in the framework of the security of the excavation during repair works on the Theatre square. According to archaeologists, the tavern managed to survive the reign of several kings (from Elizabeth to Alexander the First) due to good location. The wooden building stood close to the Petrovsky (now Big) theater, and was a favorite retreat for artists and avid theatergoers. In addition to residues of the framework archaeologists have found coins XVIII-XIX centuries and a bottle dated 1814. More recent artifacts are not. Scientists believe that since the second quarter of the nineteenth century, the tavern ceased to exist. As noted by the chief archaeologist of Moscow Leonid Kondrashov, discovery will retain. The remains of the tavern will be preserved or not under a glass dome, or transferred to the Museum.
In addition, the researchers found a unique token of the coachman, dated 1862 year. According to historians, the copper “document” was the equivalent of a modern license to carry passengers. Judging by the text on the token, the owner worked in the area of Prechistenka.
