When renovations on the Theatre square in Moscow, workers stumbled upon the tavern of the eighteenth century which, as subsequently found by the archaeologists stood on this spot for over 50 years. The specialists studied the remains of a wooden frame, and a number of artifacts, some of which is a quarter of a Millennium.
Among the items that managed to find professionals — the shards of ceramic mugs, glass bottles, metal buckles and buttons in the cracks of the floor and copper coins. Dated of these findings, the researchers came to the conclusion that drinking establishment “experienced”, at least four emperors and empresses — Elizabeth who ruled from 1741 to 1761, Peter III (1761 and 1762), Catherine II (1762-1796) and Paul I (1796-1801). The most “late” the discovery was a fragment of imported glass bottles, which is the date 1814. This suggests that the pub worked in the times of the next Emperor — Alexander I, according to the website of the municipality.
After examining the remains of a log log lower floor (basement), scientists came to the conclusion that the pub was adjacent to the right Bank of the river Neglinka river that was enclosed in a tube about the same time when the pub was closed in the years 1817-1819. The institution was located close to Bolshoi theatre, then still bore the name of “theatre” than professionals and tend to explain the long period of his work.
Experts have not yet decided finally, what is the fate of the detected object in the near future. In all likelihood, it will either be moved to the exhibition area in the Museum or left in place excavation under a glass dome.
