The Minister of defence of Germany Ursula von der Leyen said that NATO and Russia should exchange data on the number and movement of troops. In his opinion, such an honest exchange of information would contribute to defusing tension.
To share such data, said von der Leyen, Moscow and NATO in the framework of the OSCE. He added that NATO is a purely defensive Alliance, from which the proposal was made long ago, according to Bild am Sonntag.
German defense Minister noted the need to improve relations with Russia, but Moscow should take steps to do this, for example, to adhere to international rules. “Dialogue is necessary, at least two,” said the Minister. At the same time it supported the strategy of NATO in Eastern Europe as a response to “Russian aggression”.
Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, commenting on a snap exercise in Russia last from 14 to 22 June, said that the problem with these exercises is in compliance with the Vienna document, which regulates the procedures of monitoring and surveillance exercises. The NATO chief then noted the need to strengthen “existing mechanisms of monitoring exercises, including the modernization of the Vienna document”.Related posts:
