Obama discussed the outcome of the British referendum with Merkel and Cameron


US President Barack Obama during a telephone conversation discussed with the Prime Minister and German Chancellor Angela Merkel results of the referendum in the United Kingdom of withdrawal from the European Union, reported on the White house website.

Politicians expressed regret concerning the decision of the UK to secede from the Union, but declared respect for the will of the British people.

The American leader, in conversation with Cameron noted that the special relationship with Britain and Britain’s membership of NATO remains the cornerstone of American politics.

The results of the referendum on June 23, 51,9% of Britons voted to secede the United Kingdom from the EU, opposed by 48.1 percent.
