In Tashkent on Friday closed a summit of the SCO. The presidents of the “six” (Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan) discussed the consequences of last year’s, as they say in the Kremlin, “historic” decisions on enlargement, namely the registration of membership of India and Pakistan, and the prospects for accession of Iran. Neojidannym was the statement of the Chairman of China’s readiness to consider the application of Afghanistan.
Iran since 2005, is an observer at the Shanghai cooperation organization.
The Russian side, which, unlike the others, considers the SCO is not only economic but also political Union, last year spoke in favor of the approval of the application of the Islamic Republic. But at the summit in Ufa solution of the problem of prepyatstvie the lack of progress in talks on Iran’s nuclear program: according to the rules of the SCO country under UN sanctions cannot apply for membership.
However, the head of China XI Jinping said he was ready with the other to consider not only the application of Iran, but also the application of Afghanistan (the country received observer status at the SCO in 2012).
Vladimir SAZHIN, senior researcher, Institute of Oriental studies: “For Russia it would be nice esldi would Iran join the SCO: it is very important polozene in the region, we have close positions on many political aspects: on Afghanistan and the fight against terrorism istemistim, given for not attending foreign military forces in the Caucasus region and the Caspian sea.
But before the sanctions are lifted, Iran wanted to join the SCO, he needed this political-diplomatic umbrella. Now the threat is gone, and with it disappeared the need of Iran to be a member of the SCO.
Iran began to focus on the West, to the EU. He need high technology and huge foreign investment. Hardly anyone from the SCO members, except China, can provide this.
I do not think that in the near future Iran will become a full member of the SCO”.
Andrey KAZANTSEV, Director of analytical center at the Institute for international studies of MGIMO, doctor of political Sciences: “Russia is now rather good relations with Iran and the accession of Iran to SCO would just lead to the fact that they will be a little better.
The expansion of the organization complicates decision-making. The entry of Iran, this procedure will complicate even more, it is clear that he, too, has its own interests.
Afghanistan’s membership in the SCO will entail additional problems, the situation in the country is still very heavy. In this case, the SCO countries – particularly Russia, China, India and Pakistan – will be more reason and obligations for intervention in Afghan Affairs with a view to their settlement. But this intervention will happen in any case. Because the role of the Americans in control of Afghanistan reduced the American troops will not be there forever. When they leave, the obligation to stabilize Afghanistan will fall on neighbouring States”.Related posts:
