The American space Agency NASA has signed with the Association of universities in the USA a new contract for the continued work of the Hubble space telescope. According to the document, the signing of which was announced by the press service of the space Agency, the telescope will be used, at least until 2021.
Automatic Observatory”Hubble” allows you to record the electromagnetic radiations in the infrared and some other bands in which terrestrial atmosphere is opaque. The spacecraft is capable of making more clear shots than would a telescope located on Earth, since the latter would hurt the atmosphere.
The telescope was launched on 24 April 1990. Original launch planned for 4 years earlier, but the disaster of space Shuttle Challenger that led to the deaths of the seven astronauts, forced the United States to suspend the space program Space Shuttle, and the launch of the space Observatory was postponed. This greatly increased the cost of the project, however, after four years in the design of the telescope had been made some significant improvements.
During the operation of the apparatus has helped mankind to make significant progress in studying the Solar system and deep space. In particular, it was the first to map the surface of the two largest dwarf planets Pluto and Eris, and also were observed ultraviolet auroras at Saturn, Jupiter and the planet’s satellite Ganymede. Data collected about the more distant space objects, allowed the theory of supermassive black holes in the centers of galaxies and are generally much to clarify the existing ideas about the cosmos. In addition, the Hubble has allowed to open a number of planetary satellites in the Solar system, as well as the new galaxy.
Often the telescope is at the center of attention not only in connection with perfect thanks to him the discovery, but after the publication of the very beautiful images on the basis of his pictures.
In a recent interview for “Moskovsky Komsomolets” American astronaut Tom Jones, who had made four space flights and four spacewalks, said he believes the launch of the space telescope “Hubble”, along with the creation of the International space station, one of the most significant events in the field of space exploration over the past few decades.Related posts:
