The results of the last UK referendum (the majority for leaving the EU), some have caused a rush of joy and excitement, others a panic attack and a sad foreboding. It does not cause the outcome of the British referendum “Domino effect”? What challenges will face in practice the Europeans? We discussed with the expert.
Head of Department of European security, Institute of Europe Dmitry DANILOV:
“Brexit is an extraordinary event, so after what happened, of course, you can not discount any of the scenarios. Including the most negative, for example, the same “Domino effect” we’re talking about.
But in this case it will be associated not only with the British example, and the fact that the UK fully razbalansirovat the European system and the EU from the inside. And now many European countries it is important, first and foremost, to consolidate its position in order to reduce the damage from the incident. But in the future each state will have to understand what the EU, they remain, and what are the prospects of this Alliance?
But the fact remains that the European Union will be weakened. And the prospect of falling out from it separate links there – and it’s not just about the weak, like Greece or Portugal, but about the “heavyweights”.
What is the interest of the EU would pose to France without the UK? What is the interest for Paris will represent the project of European defence without the participation of London?
Will increase and the rhetoric of eurosceptics – if to speak about France, statements by marine Le Pen concerning the EU will be heard more frequently.
The current government, it will be very uncomfortable to play on the opposite site. In General, the nationalization policy within the EU will become a very noticeable trend that will reduce the scope for reaching agreement within the Union on important issues. And the output will be one to go on British way, winning for himself the sovereignty to solve national problems.
– The citizens of the EU, on the one hand, and to British subjects, on the other, technically fraught Brexit – in terms of employment, business, crossing the borders?
A crisis of this scale cannot fail to strike the ordinary man. We are talking about a complete reformatting of trade relations, markets, etc. – it will affect everyone.
Of course, the British say about the partnership with the EU, but it will be eliminated, many institutions in which the UK participated. Will be weakened ties not only with the EU but with the United States, which, probably, are not interested in the old relationship.
As for the other important consequences, let’s not forget about the migration crisis, one of the main arguments of supporters of Brexit. Can London cope with this challenge? Very doubtful.

It is possible that the UK as a major European state not a member of the EU, will represent a more convenient platform for those migrants. The main problem now, in my opinion – the destruction of four freedoms, which formed the EU: freedom of movement of persons, goods, services and freedom of movement of capital.
If the Kingdom is to adhere to these freedoms, then there are problems for students, capital, investors, small businesses, which have serious problems with access to the European market.
And we are not talking about how and when the British will be able to adapt to the new situation, and the fact that many people will start to lose now. It will be serious and tangible factor, as the UK economy is based not only on its strength as a financial center, but also on the real economy, enterprises of small and medium business…
It’s difficult to calculate, but short-term factors can easily develop into long term.
