Peace between Russia and Turkey while only touch on lemons

The official representative of the foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said on Thursday that the Turkish foreign Minister was invited to the meeting of the Council of foreign Ministers of member countries of the black sea Economic cooperation (BSEC), which will be held July 1 in Sochi. To expect any invitations warming in Russian-Turkish relations, or is it just a diplomatic formality, the “MK” asked the experts.

In the schedule of foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on the sidelines of a meeting of foreign Ministers of BSEC as of 1 July in Sochi separate meetings with his Turkish counterpart yet. However, Zakharova said, “this is normal” when on the sidelines of such events are the contacts of all Ministers. Arrive at BSEC, Minister of foreign Affairs of Turkey or not – the question for the Turkish side,” the diplomat said.

Ilshat Saitov, Turkologist, candidate of political Sciences:

I think this is the next stage of the games going for a long time and the essence of which is reflected in the fact that Russia is demanding an apology and the Turkish side says: “Let’s be friends, but without apology”. May be held preparatory preliminary negotiations for Turkey escaped not only the legal things, such as letters from President to President and from the Prime Minister to the Prime Minister, but also some more serious, significant public statements. Although, on the other hand, the press Secretary of the Turkish President Ibrahim Kalin said on the eve of that Turkey to apologize still not going to. Maybe after the talks, will return some small things, like lemons, still their supply volumes in times less than the volume of exports of the same tomatoes, but not tourism and investment in construction. But it is worth considering that before the referendum (the President of Turkey suggested that the country could hold a referendum on the continuing attempts to join the EU – ed.) Erdogan on hand confrontation with Russia because of any external enemy to consolidate the population.

Gregory Melamed, researcher, Institute of Oriental studies:

Now that’s hard to say. Turkey has seen the desire of closer relations with Russia. But is there such a desire on the part of Russia? On the one hand, it is, of course, because the situation in the middle East is complicated, and Turkey is one of the key players there. With another – Russia has set conditions for normalizing relations. I think it is possible warming of relations in certain fields. For example, for the protection of the environment. But we should not exaggerate the value of this invitation, after all it would be strange not to invite the representative of Turkey.
