The decision was made: the anti-Russian EU sanctions will be extended

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said that the decision to extend EU sanctions against Russia has already been taken.

As said Juncker in an interview with Euronews, the chance of a weakening of the anti-restriction for six months is still there: the sanctions regime could be mitigated by implementation of the Minsk agreements. “Simply put, the more you complete, the points of the Minsk Protocol, the less sanctions,” he added.

“At the moment it is quite clear that in June we are going to renew the sanctions. But for the next six months we will continue monitoring to understand whether there is sufficient progress in the implementation of the Minsk agreements in order to remove some sanctions,” — said the head of the European Commission.

We will remind, the day before – June 20 – the extension of EU sanctions against Russia announced by the Minister of foreign Affairs of France Jean-Marc Ayrault. Also about the inevitability of the extension of the restrictions was announced by the head of the European Council Donald Tusk.
