Women who had dedicated his career of more than 60 hours a week, significantly more at risk of developing life-threatening diseases than those who treat their job with less fanaticism. The study, which analyzed the dangers of workaholics, was conducted by specialists from Ohio state University.
The researchers studied data that was collected on 7.5 thousands people for 32 years in another study. Scholars interested in the relationship between the duration of the working week participants and their health status. Among the study participants work alone imply primarily physical activity, while the other was mental.
As it turned out, women had no additional health risk to devote 40 hours a week (which, for example, corresponds to the “standard” five-day work week with eight-hour working day). Then the probability to hurt yourself with excessive hard work increases at first gradually, and after 50 hours — quite sharply. The researchers argue that when shestidesyatnikov working week, the risk of occurrence in women life-threatening diseases is three times higher than forty-hour. It is, in particular, about heart disease, cancer, diabetes and arthritis. The specialists noted that in men the correlation between working hours and health status was observed to a much lesser extent, the researchers note.
Experts mention that in the past a number of studies have already been devoted to the relationship between workweek and productivity of the employee and other similar aspects, however, the relationship between work and chronic diseases has not yet been fully considered.
The obtained results of the experts are inclined to explain, including the fact that most women not only work, but also undertake most of the work around the house, in connection with which the actual load they are not limited to efforts spent on building a career.
