His proposal Sarkozy announced in a speech at the St. Petersburg international economic forum (SPIEF). He stated that advocates the lifting of sanctions with Russia, as Europe already has enough problems.

However, the first step, he believes, should make Russia itself, removing a number of Western countries food embargo. “The strong must extend a hand first, and most powerful — Russia, that President Putin”, – he said.

The Kremlin offer Sarkozy was perceived critically. According to press Secretary of the Russian President to cancel countermeasures against “misunderstanding” the West fact of the Minsk agreements would be unreasonable.

This is an erroneous interpretation, said Peskov, is that the EU and the United States “all the time, like a mantra, recite the phrase that Russia should fulfill the Minsk agreement”, RIA Novosti reported. In the Kremlin have repeatedly stressed that their implementation does not depend on Russia, which is not a party to the conflict, and Kiev and Donbass.

“Of course, against the background of these statements to do some kind of charity and cancel countermeasures, don’t know how it would have been reasonable,” — said Peskov.

He did not answer the question about reaction of the Russian leader Vladimir Putin on the proposal of Sarkozy, explaining the refusal by the fact that the head of state, this topic has not publicly commented on. Recall that Russia intends to extend the anti-sanctions until the end of 2017.
