In the night of Friday, law enforcement bodies of Dagestan eliminated 39-year-old Hasan Abdullayev (Abu Yasser), one of the most famous leaders of the North Caucasian militants sworn forbidden in Russia “Islamic state” (IG). Members of the underground considered him “Amir and Qadi of the southern sector of Vilayat Dagestan”. During the RAID killed one FSB officer and 3 of the Riot police, another 5 people were injured. Experts believe that the Republic can, though not long, but still to breathe freely.
According to the Russian law enforcement bodies, in the summer of 2011 Abdullayev was prepared blasting of a passenger train “Sapsan” plying between Moscow and St. Petersburg. Additionally, at the end of last year, the militants attacked the visitors of the fortress Naryn-Kala in Derbent, and this year a few times blew up cars at police checkpoints, resulting in 3 law enforcement officer killed 18 bystanders were injured. It is believed that his gang is the most powerful in the North Caucasus, as each fighter trained in special camps for guerrilla warfare.
On the night of 17 June Abdullayev, together with his accomplices blocked in two villages: Gedzhukh Derbent region and Kasumkent Suleiman-stalsky district. The result of the fighting killed 6 militants.
Abdullayev was wanted since 2009 when it operated under the auspices of Doku Umarov, the leader of the Caucasus Emirate (an organization banned in Russia). But finally on the trail of a gunman, law enforcement agencies managed to come out in April 2014, when while combing the forests around Gagaha Russian special forces ambushed fighters. Despite the fact that three of the Islamists managed to take prisoner, and one fighter of OMON were lost. And at the end of November the Suleyman-Stalsky district, security forces eliminated “right arm” Abdullayev Makhmud Makhmudov, who managed to fight in Syria, and two of his assistants.
Arthur ATAEV, head of sector for Caucasus studies of the RISS:
Mr. Abdullayev was an odious figure, and he did not take part in clashes and attacks. Instead, he sent his “disciples”, the target audience which, as a rule, were law enforcement officers, but also civilians, including the elderly, they also killed not rare. For example, on 9 may, they killed the father of the former mayor of Derbent. But I’m not sure that now the fighters will be left without a leader, as they have a very high rotation. In this work, several factors, among which the expulsion of the Islamists from Azerbaijan and the ongoing war in the middle East. Besides the “South” gang is a very serious jihadist structure, which has an extensive network in southern Dagestan, which is a stronghold for ISIS in Russia. It consists of about 70 active fighters, approximately 130 of the Islamists are in a “sleep mode”. However, as practice shows, unlike the beginning of 2000-x years the terrorists have ceased to avenge their leaders and Vice versa began to subside.
Akhmet YARLYKAPOV, senior researcher at the Center for Caucasus and regional security MGIMO:
– If all true, then the police conducted one of the most successful operations in recent times. Perhaps the “South” gang was the only full-fledged combat group of terrorists who could commit a serious operation in the North Caucasus. So we can expect a decline in terrorist activity in Dagestan, but absolutely can not relax, as the funding from the Middle East is not reduced, and it does not just “southern”. Also in the region remains enough people having different experiences of terrorist attacks that could lead the “South”.Related posts:
