A group of Dutch researchers from Radboud University Nijmegen, spoke about a new method that allows you to consolidate the newly learned information or memory about the event. According to scientists, this will help sport. However, for maximum effect to physical exercise people have to resort at certain times — four hours after receipt of new data.

In order to determine the conditions under which the exercises help to understand the information, the experts conducted a series of experiments involving 72 volunteers, which the researchers divided into three groups. Each of the participants were shown 90 different images when viewing which was offered to remember certain details. Studying the images participants had 40 minutes. The first group right after that for half an hour practising on the bike, and then was able to relax. Those who fall into the second group, on the contrary, immediately after viewing the images could relax, but had to work out on the road in four hours. Finally, participants in the third group had to exercise either immediately or after some time after the “session remembering”.
After 48 hours, all participants passed the test, which tested how well they remembered it had shown previously of the image. As it turned out, it is best with this challenge the representatives of the second group — those who played sports four hours after the demonstration pictures. And those who were invited to do sports immediately and those who were not engaged, showed a bit worse results. The results of magnetic resonance imaging carried out during the final part of the experiment, also testify to the fact that their brains worked more effectively.
Although experts still can not confidently explain why to consolidate memories useful exercise exactly four hours later, they hope in the future to find the answer to this question, and the practical application of their conclusions.
The results the researchers reported in the journal Current Biology.Related posts:
