“Observe cleanliness”: in Belarus urged to get rid of ribbons


Activists from the Belarusian city of Baranovichi carrying out an action of getting rid of the made in Russia a symbol of the Victory Day ribbons. This is reported by local bloggers, posting a photo of the corresponding billboards in the streets.

On the leaflets, which distributes local movement “For freedom” shows the classic symbol of a man with a basket, calling to get rid of garbage, however the trash was flying the St. George ribbon.

The caption on the leaflet are the words “Keep clean! Belarus is not a race!”

As explained by activists themselves, these folks not only do they put on the houses, but leave the ribbons, because I want to awaken a critical attitude to this symbolism,” considering it a symbol of “Russian imperialism”.

The action movement is going to spread all over the country, displacing St. George ribbon symbols of national ornaments.

We will remind that on the eve of 9 may, there were reports that the Belarusian authorities “do not recommend” to use the Russian symbols on holiday events, offer an alternative in the form of images of Apple blossom. A similar alternative in the form of the poppy flower appeared in Ukraine.
