Lavrov outraged by the detention of the bus with Russian fans in France


The Russian foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the “government hour” in the state Duma commented on the scandalous situation around the Russian football fans at Euro 2016 in France. The Minister criticized the French authorities, who had detained the bus with the Russian fans and called the Consul, thus violating the Vienna Convention, and also condemned the behavior of the British, trampled on the Russian tricolor.

In the state Duma today discussed the situation with the fans for Euro 2016. Lavrov emphasized that Moscow will not turn a blind eye to the “brand provocative actions,” foreign football fans, reports RIA Novosti.

“You probably saw the shocking footage on TV when you stomp on the Russian flag, when shout insults to the Russian leadership, to the leading Russian athletes,” the Minister said, addressing to deputies. According to the diplomat, “to be broken in the scuffle” in any case impossible, but to ignore provocateurs is unacceptable, reports NTV.

The Russian foreign Minister also commented on the incident with the detention of the bus with the Russians heading to Lille for the match against Slovakia. According to him, French authorities were obliged immediately to notify about the incident the Russian Embassy or Consulate General in Marseille, but this was not done.

“It became clear that the French were ready to call the SWAT to assault the bus. It all would have been totally unacceptable situation, but our diplomats were able to defuse,” – said the Russian Minister.

Lavrov informed the deputies that he had sent an oral message to foreign Minister of France Jean-Marc Ayrault, demanding not to allow such violations. “The French behaved contrary to all obligations under the Vienna Convention,” — said the Minister.

In addition, Lavrov drew attention to the excesses of the Russian fans: “it is Unacceptable to behave the way some of our citizens, which came with crackers, some crackers: it’s all strictly prohibited”, – he said.

On Tuesday UEFA conditionally disqualified the Russian team until the end of Euro 2016 in riots by supporters on June 11 at the stadium in Marseille after the match against England (1:1). This means that the repetition of serious clashes, the Russian team may withdraw from the championship.

Today in Lille will host the match of the group stage of the European championship on football between national teams of Slovakia and Russia. The local police asked the Russian fans do not walk around town in t-shirts of the national team and not waving national flags, warning that will not be able to protect them.
