“A true friend of Russia,” Sarkozy called Putin the most powerful leader

Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, arrived at the St. Petersburg economic forum, in his speech said many complimentary words to the Russian President Vladimir Putin.

He stated that advocates the lifting of sanctions with Russia, as Europe already has enough problems. However, the first step, he believes, should make Russia itself: “The strong must extend a hand first, and most powerful — Russia, that President Putin”.

Financial Times correspondent Max Seddon tweeted quotes another saying of Sarkozy: “the Authority of Putin is his place among civilized people. No one can deny it.”

Sarkozy added that the lifting of retaliatory sanctions by Russia would raise “in exchange for the use of Minsk-2. He promised to warn about the undesirability of the extension of European sanctions European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker.

Said the former President and the crucial role that Putin could play in the Syrian conflict: that he, I am sure Sarkozy can achieve a unified coalition: this can help the leadership of Mr. Putin.”

Sarkozy also called himself a “true friend of Russia”: he explained that “false friends” come when things are going well, and “true” — just when everything is bad. The politician added that he “will fight” for something that is not a new cold war, as it is not in the interests of the Europeans, although the relations of Russia and Europe “have never been so cold.”

Earlier, Sarkozy met with Putin, but also with the heads of Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov, VTB Andrey Kostin, Sberbank German Gref and “Renova” Victor Vekselberg.
