German Chancellor Angela Merkel may compromise with Turkey despite Ankara’s refusal to comply with the terms of the EU, the newspaper writes the Telegraph referring to the correspondence of British diplomats. For example, the German authorities can turn a blind eye to radical amendments in the anti-terror law of Turkey, which until now has been criticized because of non-compliance with European standards. This opinion was expressed by the British Ambassador, Sebastian wood.
In Berlin fear that in case of refusal of granting a visa-free regime with the EU Turkish leader Erdogan will open the gates for migrants, and the flow of refugees to Europe will increase significantly, I think the British diplomats.
In the end the visa-free regime with Turkey could enter into force from 1 July, and in October 2016 in Berlin believe that this delay will satisfied with Erdogan. According to British diplomats, delay is necessary in order not to escalate the situation on the eve of a referendum on British exit from the EU (June 23).
