Georgia Turkey scares the Russian “Iskander”

The Georgian defense Ministry has sounded the alarm: Russia deployed in South Ossetia “Iskander”, and this is just part of the “far reaching plans”. Georgian politicians require reciprocal political steps, hinting at a threat for Turkey. But the panic caused by Tbilisi’s not a real threat, and the desire to attract the attention of the international community, forgetting about Georgia on the background of the intensity of relations between Turkey and Russia.

The Ministry of defense of Georgia stated that Russia has deployed on the territory of South Ossetia several missile complexes “Iskander”. “Of course, we have such information, we try to monitor on it (style and punctuation preserved). Missiles definitely not aimed at Georgia. It is part of far-reaching plans. First and foremost, the response must be political, and also the necessary support from the international community,” said chief of joint staff of Georgian armed forces Vakhtang Kapanadze, RIA “Novosti”.

“For Tbilisi such cries – a way to attract attention to himself, because in the latest developments around Syria and Turkey, Georgia is not involved as unnecessary”

Defence Minister Tina Khidasheli said that “on this issue the Georgian government conducts regular consultations with partners.” If by “partners” meant NATO, its official representatives do not prefer to comment on and literally refer “the matter to the Georgian and Russian authorities.” According to the TV company “Rustavi-2”, missile complexes were introduced into South Ossetia about 10 days ago. Let me say that “Rustavi-2” never learned to count.

Initially, the Russian 4th guards military base in South Ossetia were placed tactical missiles “Tochka-U” is noticeably less range than the “Iskander” (120 kilometers versus 500), and no special attention is not attracted. But no “Iskander” then, in 2009, when the state formed the base, in sight of the troops was not. A “Point” was then considered almost the most formidable weapon in the region. “Iskander” – is still still arms almost exotic, and needs of the Russian army is still not satisfied. Votkinsk plant works in three shifts, but according to the schedule approved by the head of the defense Ministry Sergei Shoigu, all missile brigades rearmed on “Iskander” by 2018.

And in 2015, the program began the total re-equipment of SMD parts. To him belongs administratively and 4th guards Vapnyarka-Berlin red banner orders of Suvorov and Kutuzov military base, located in South Ossetia, Jarama.

The scale of the rearmament of the southern military district as a whole is impressive. Received about 150 pieces of new equipment, including a modernized tanks T-72B3, the new multiple launch rocket systems “Smerch”, “Grad”, SAM short-range Strela-10″, an electronic warfare system “Borisoglebsk-2”, the new long-wheelbase “Ural”, the drones “guard rails-3” and so much more, good and exciting.

And “Iskander”. Part of the PUBLICATION “the newly formed missile division” (as it is called officially, in the style of defense), to the standard of 12 launchers. Still do not know the number of this military unit and be deployed, presumably it will be in the city of Mozdok, in North Ossetia, at the famous local military base. The solemn transfer of technology (i.e. “Iskander”) the troops took place on 18 December. Therefore, to emerge in South Ossetia before this date they could not.

The Georgian Ministry of defense, as usual, emotionally exaggerated in folk style “why me!”. The talk about replacing “Points” with “Iskander” in Russian base in South Ossetia was already with 2011, as soon as it was formed the first missile brigade in Luga. Given the importance and strategic property bases in the Caucasus, the re was only a matter of time and capabilities of the Russian military-industrial complex. Serial deliveries to the troops of the brigades of Iskander missiles in 12 launchers in each began 2013 consistently at two brigades a year. Now turn to SMD. And where the team will be based in Mozdok or on the ground in Jarama isn’t important.

But in a rare public debate on this subject has been argued that the acceleration of the retrofitting of the 4th base can be linked to strengthen the capacity of Georgia, both theoretically and practically unlikely. In addition to the “Iskander”, it was about relocation to Tskhinvali helicopters MI-28N. Tbilisi is constantly haunted by the s-300, which in reality is located not in South Ossetia and in Abkhazia. The 4th base is enough “Books”, they’re more natural look due to the rear location of South Ossetia to potential threats.

On the basis of the way right now are the teachings in which are practiced the steps of the air defense with the use of new complexes of short-range Strela-10″. Presumably, we are talking about development of skills to combat drones, and that tactic is clearly defensive, not offensive.

At the same time, the re-deployment of “Iskander”, if not the whole team, and at least in part, on the 4th base could become a landmark event. A significant part of Turkish Eastern Anatolia is covered in addition to air “the hood”, which is created by s-300 and s-400 bases in Armenia and Abkhazia. This is a natural tactical move in response to the increasing military activity of the Turkish army in the region, including on the border with Armenia.

Tension in the region is growing every day and we need to respond. A two-headed serpent” With 300 plus “Iskander” – is already recognized as a very effective sedative, managed to calm many in Eastern Europe.

The Georgian Ministry of defense just focuses on the fact that “Iskander” is likely directed not against them. For Tbilisi, these are not too informative screams – the way to attract attention to themselves, because in recent events around Syria and Turkey, Georgia is not involved as unnecessary. And here they are, armed with “information”, “warning” poor Turkey about the violent “far-reaching plans” of Moscow. And, as usual, asking for “assistance from the international community.”

Denunciation counted. It is a pity that Kapanadze and Khidasheli was not coordinated with the foreign Ministry. And that “facilitation of the visa regime from December 23, initiated by Vladimir Putin as a goodwill gesture, maybe to last long.
