According to experts, changes in the brain in humans can begin 10 years before the appearance of overt symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease. And if you find a way to identify the disease at an early stage, it is possible to slow its progression. Us scientists intend to develop a test that would accurately detect the disease at early stages. According to foreign experts, in this sense can become an assistant to the blood. Scientists presented data about his method, which showed the level of accuracy and specificity close to 100%. The fact is that for the early stage of Alzheimer’s disease is characterized by the appearance of blood biomarkers. These markers were 50 antibodies selected in the study from 9486 unique blood proteins 236 using microarrays. By identifying the biomarkers, doctors will be able to make the diagnosis. However, cure senile dementia even with this approach it is not yet possible.

Comment by Igor MACOLIN, chief physician 2 diagnostic Department of the clinic of “Medicine”:

– The diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease recently wore probabilistic in nature, and reliably confirmed only on the basis of a special (pathological) study. Laboratory and instrumental methods of research until relatively recently, played only a subsidiary role. Routine blood tests, urine contained no specific for the disease indicators. Not so long ago made possible the determination in cerebrospinal fluid (biological fluid in the brain — Ed.) and blood, several specific markers of the degenerative process, however, they are found already in the later stages of the disease. It is clear that accurate diagnosis in the early stages of the disease with the help of relatively simple analyses could provide doctors and patients a number of advantages. In the first place, you could count on slowing the progression of the disease due to the correction of lifestyle, as well as to adequately plan the upcoming treatment.
